From Science Labs to Scripture: A Journey of Faith
When science labs met Scripture, the life of Dr. Oscar C. Johnson, Ph.D., took shape. A Christian author, educator, and lifelong seeker of truth, Dr. Johnson was raised by a Japanese Buddhist mother, and while faith was present in his upbringing, it was not central to his early life.
As a teenager and young adult, he learned about Jesus through many voices — Christians, Muslims, Hebrews, Buddhists, and even secular thinkers. Their views often conflicted, yet all agreed on one thing: Jesus existed and changed lives. From these mixed perspectives, Dr. Johnson formed what he later called a “composite Jesus” — a version shaped by convenience rather than truth.
It wasn’t until his college years that he truly encountered Christ, sparking a journey that would transform his life, purpose, and writing. Focused on education and professional growth, he pursued advanced studies in science, medicine, philosophy, and bioethics, earning multiple degrees and publishing scientific and medical papers along the way.
For more than 35 years, Dr. Johnson served as a medical provider in Orthopedics, taught at multiple medical schools, and contributed to academic literature. By worldly measures, his career was highly successful. Yet over time, a deeper question emerged: could science truly answer life’s spiritual questions — purpose, justice, suffering, and eternity?
That question led him back to Scripture.
Dr. Johnson’s faith journey began in his late teens and deepened over decades of study, service, and reflection. He was born again while in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam Era, inspired by a fellow serviceman’s daily discipline of memorizing Scripture. That moment marked the beginning of a lifelong walk with Christ.
Beyond writing, Dr. Johnson has worn many hats — medical educator, debate coach, bioethics author, self-taught cook — yet remains grounded in one truth: none of his accomplishments would have been possible without God. One of his works has been featured in interviews, including America Tonight with Kate Delaney, where he shared how faith and reason coexist in the pursuit of truth.
A Turning Point: Seeking the Real Jesus
Dr. Johnson began his journey in the Old Testament, exploring prophecies that foretold Christ’s coming. He studied the synoptic gospels, comparing their accounts of Jesus’ life and ministry, and finally examined the Apostles’ teachings to uncover the deeper meaning of Christ’s message, mission, and sacrifice.
This personal search became the foundation for Jesus: 5 Questions — a book that reflects what Dr. Johnson discovered through study, reflection, and a sincere desire to know Jesus more fully. It is not written to persuade, correct, or debate, but to share an honest understanding formed through faith and Scripture.
If even one reader grows closer to Christ or begins a deeper exploration of God’s Word, Dr. Johnson considers this a faithful use of the gifts God entrusted to him.

Christianity has not always been part of my life. I was raised by a Japanese mother who was Buddhist.
It wasn’t until my college years that I discovered Christ. I didn’t respond immediately to this discovery as I was focused on education. As a result, I have advanced degrees in medicine. This led me to write multiple scientific and medical papers.
I don’t consider myself a great writer. I write in prose to communicate my own feelings and interpretations of the Word of God. I do however borrow from some of the great thinkers of theology for their insight.
So 52 Weeks is not a major theological treatise but a relatively superficial book to share the direct words of the Bible to any age group in understandable speech.
God gives us gifts that we use to spread his message.
My hope is that 52 Weeks reaches those who want to seek the truth of the Bible and the message of the Lord. I believe that the Lord has helped me to write this book as He has given me the gift to write. I pray it will bring its readers closer to God.
I continue to use this book in my personal life. The words of the Bible will last forever.
